A New Fall Handmade Dress

It's funny how the changes in season make you also want to change your wardrobe. I don't just mean breaking out the warm sweaters and jackets, but also changing the colors too! With Fall's rich shades and falling leaves I also develop a strong urge to wear darker colors, like rich jewel tones, blacks, and grays. While in Spring I cant get enough of pastels and bright cheery colors. As I continue on in my goal to have a closet full of handmade frocks I finished a new dress today and it suits all my Fall desires! Check it out...

I have some more darker Fall frocks in mind and in the making that I promise to show you as I finish them. I hope you had a lovely Fall weekend. Here is how mine ended...
A lovely walk with my mom through the neighborhood where I grew up. Pure bliss!

When life gives you lemons...

Well the show this weekend in Wisconsin Dells was not all I had hoped. Sadly, I feel that it was another example of how the tough economy has caused a lot of people to not have the money to by art, as many vendors were complaining of low sales. To make the most of the slow day, I did have a chance to catch up with some fun art friends and meet new ones! My friend Courtney and I have been running into each other at art fairs for a few years now. She makes the most amazing soaps and wonderful smelling body products! Every time we see each other, we are sure to trade so I can stock up on her fabulous soaps! I love them!

She also sells perfume oils, lip balm, lotion and oh so much more!
And all with natural ingredients.
To get some of her fabulous products, stop by her website, www.mycleanaura.com. I promise you won't regret it!

I also spent some of the day hitting up a local church rummage sale! I love those kinds of sales...you can find great stuff! I would show you my awesome finds, but some of it will be going as holiday gifts in the near future so I you will have to wait! But I did want to show you my latest handmade skirt...I know, I know, you are probably thinking "another one?" But I can't help myself...I love making and wearing them...so just deal with it!

This one is made from some really fun fabric with birds (I have a thing for birds!), peace signs, trees, and clouds and other little fun characters, in a pretty brown with other pastel colors! I added pockets with similar blue and brown colors. I found the fabric in the "juvenile fabric" section at Joann's...isn't that just the way it always happens?! Apparently, I am a "juvenile!"

New Pillows and a Fun Fall Art Fair!

This weekend Artsy Fartsy will be at the Wisconsin Dells Autumn Harvest Festival! It's our first time at this show so I hope it will be a good one! The weather is supposed to be great and the leaves should be beautiful, as much of Wisconsin is now in peak fall colors! So if you are in the Wisconsin Dells area be sure to stop on by!

In preparing for the show, I have been busy making new Artsy Fartsy Halloween pillows! Aren't they cute?! Hope to see you at the festival!

I Love Making Skirts!

I am on a skirt making kick lately! Here is my latest creation...do you like it? The fabric is a lovely, not too heavy corduroy, black with white polka dots (of course!)...very good for fall and winter! And with this crazy warm weather Wisconsin has been having lately...I can wear it without pants or tights still! Anyhoo...I have some other fun fall and winter fabric to make a few more skirts and I can't wait to show them off to you! I have decided that this will be my typical cold weather gear...fun skirts with fun shirts, over pants! Pretty yet functional! And wait till you see my Halloween fabric! Ooh the I just know that skirt will be fantabulous!

It was a good week!

This week has flown by...but it was a good week!

First....

In addition to my art, I am a social worker. I have now been in this profession for the last 6 years, working with children and families in the community. I love my job and I love social work. Yes, it is a stressful job, but I feel that it is a very important job, and with my art, I have a good balance in life! Passing the LCSW exam is a big milestone for a clinical social worker such as I. Only social workers who have their masters degree, has passed a prior Advance Practice exam, and completed over 3000 hours of direct clinical service with clients can take the exam. Once you have accomplished all that, the exam is the final big hurdle. So this week I finally leaped over that hurdle and it feels so good to have it behind me now!

In addition, after a week gone, we will be back at the Farmer's Market tomorrow in Madison as an art vendor! The Dane County Farmer's Market is so beautiful this time of year! Everywhere you look signs of Fall abound, from pumpkins and squash, mums and other Fall flowers, to apples and happy Madisonians dressed in warm sweaters!

So, if you are in the Madison area tomorrow, be sure to come downtown and check out all the fabulous fall scenes and art! Oh, and I am starting to pull out all the stops for Halloween, so you will be sure to find lots of fun Halloween cards and original art in my booth! Hope to see you there!

I can't wait for Halloween!

Today is September 1st! That means that school is starting back up, I have already started to spy leaves changing on the trees, and Halloween is not too far away! Halloween is by far my all time favorite holiday! Followed closely by Christmas and, of course, my birthday, which should be a national holiday! So here is your fair warning...as readers of my blog, and really anyone else who has contact with me on a daily basis, be prepared for my uncontrollable bursts of excitement and enthusiasm for Halloween in the upcoming months! I would apologize for this, but I can't control myself and therefore feel no responsibility!
