Handmade Dog Collars

I was recently at the pet store, looking for a new collar for my dog, Lulu. I was instantly reminded of the fact that so often dog collars in stores are ugly, expensive, and just plain disappointing. So, I decided to try my hand at making my own! And here are the results....

Of course, since my little wiener dog is a chocolate brown color, I used some of my scraps of fabric in a pretty brown with turquoise polka dots! Then cutting her old collar apart, I reused the hardware (always good to be green!) and followed this simple sewing pattern from the fun sewing blog Keyka Lou. Not only can you find easy to read sewing tutorials like this one, but Keyka Lou also offers lots of fun PDF sewing patterns in all kinds of wonderful bag designs! I would recommend her blog and online store to everyone!

Doesn't Lulu look great!

And wouldn't a nice handmade dog collar be a great gift for friends and family who are also fellow dog lovers? Just a thought as the holidays are right around the corner!
