Crafty Like A Fox!

I just finished a brand spanking new embroidery pillow that is so cute I just had to share it with you...

I embroidered this cute & crafty little fox on a vintage doily, which I then sewed onto the pillow!

The pillow itself is made from all kinds of repurposed goodness, with the front fabric being a lovely vintage, turquoise checkered fabric, and the back a pink men's shirt, which makes a great button down closure!

And of course, to finish it all off, a lovely little Artsy Fartsy tag! This pillow has been added to the for sale goodies and can be found at the Farmer's Market next Saturday!

Spring Is Here! The Good & The Bad

Spring is finally here in Madison and I could not be happier! So when I spied some pretty pansies at the garden store I simply had to take them home with me! I still need to bring them in at night since it can get below freezing sometimes, after all it is Wisconsin, but I don't care! Aren't they so lovely?!

However, with warmer weather, melting snow, and pretty pansies, Spring in Wisconsin often comes with bad storms, which sometimes bring hail. That happened last Sunday night and boy was it loud and crazy. Here is a picture I snapped of the size of the hail falling outside. Pretty good size don't you think?

Now on to the art, I have been working on this quilted pillow for my couch and thought I would share how it is going...

Lots of pretty spring time colors, both from vintage and new fabric. I then quilted it with a pretty peach thread for a little extra oomph! The middle piece is one of my own embroidery creations...a good reminder for all of us! Just be happy!

Here is a close up of the embroidery...sorry it looks gray, but the light was kind of low, it's really on some nice white muslin.

Here is a close up of some of the vintage fabric used in the pillow, along with the pretty peach thread I used to quilt it. The pillow is not finished yet. I still need to make the back, which I think will be a simple envelope closure so I can remove the pillow cover easily for washing. So, what have you been creating lately? I would love to hear all about it!

Butterfly Embroidery

I found a lovely vintage sheet recently at one of my local thrift store haunts. The sheet had butterflies on it and I had this fun idea to cut out the butterflies and add some embroidery detail to each one. Once I have enough done, I am going to sew the butterflies onto a dress or skirt! I can't wait to have it done so I can show you the finished product! But until then, I thought I would share with you some of the butterflies in production!

One last note, the snow is melting here in Wisconsin, at least in the Madison area! Although it is often still rainy and cold, and sometimes we get a little dusting of snow, I am very excited to see the huge snow drift that has been outside my patio for many months (feels like years) melt away recently! I snapped this shot the other day to show you the little bit that was left before it completely melted. Goodbye snow drift, you were fun in December but have certainly worn out your welcome. See you next winter! Now my mind is filled with dreams of warm weather, pretty flowers, green grass, and putting away my dull winter wardrobe! I can't wait.

You're A Good Egg!

Just finished some new Easter collages, in the shape of big eggs! Perfect for hanging on your door or wall to welcome in the Easter and Spring season! Check it out...

Both of these are now for sale at The Glitter Workshop here in Madison, so be sure to stop on by soon before they find another home. I had so much fun making them I am going to get cracking on a few more, even one for my front door I think! In addition to these collages, I also dropped off some fun vintage goodies and yummy fabric at Glitter Workshop, so make sure you check out both the awesome handmade crafts and the vintage boutique!

One last note...sorry I have been a poor blogger lately, it's been busy and life has been speeding by. In addition to my full time job as a social worker, my poor little dog has been healing from a back injury and has been needing lots of TLC, vet appointments, and careful monitoring. She is starting to get better, but the recovery is slow and cautious. So I hope you forgive my lack of blogging lately. I promise to try and do better!

New Embroidery Skills!

I have been trying to learn how to incorporate embroidery into my art lately, and so far I think it has been coming along nicely! I just made this fun little Spring themed fabric/paper collage last night, which includes the words "Happy Spring" embroidered into some of the fabric. What do you think? (sorry the images are a little light in color, no good natural light today to snap photos, so I scanned it into my computer)

Here is a close up of the embroidery. I know I still need a little work, but I think it came out pretty well for my first time!

The little girls are cut out from a vintage sewing pattern envelope! I think they look lovely in their spring time dresses!

While watching movies today, I made some more embroidery pieces, so I will be sure to share with you soon!
